Loved Netflix’s hit show Tiger King? Well, it’s time to start feeling excited again! The streaming giant recently released a trailer for the second series of Tiger King, aptly titled Tiger King 2. Soon enough, fans will find out what happened to Joe Exotic, Carole Baskin, and the other cast members!
Tiger King 2 Trailer Debuts on YouTube
That’s right – the time has officially come! Netflix has released an intense first trailer for the long-awaited Tiger King 2. As the title suggests, this is the sequel to the massive hit documentary series that the streaming giant released right at the beginning of the 2019 pandemic. As a result of the COVID-19 lockdowns, as well as the larger-than-life story, Tiger King became a huge hit and instant cultural touchstone. Now, the saga will continue – despite the fact that Joe Exotic remains behind bars.
The trailer is set to the legendary Liza Minnelli singing “Maybe This Time” from the musical Cabaret. Featuring short snippets and clips, the trailer does not give a ton of info on the forthcoming intrigue and drama. However, it was more than enough to whet the appetite of fans around the world. According to Netflix, season two promises even more excitement than season one!
“With Joe Exotic behind bars and Carole Baskin closing in on ownership of his disreputable zoo, the Emmy-nominated saga continues its twisted course with ‘Tiger King 2′ as newfound revelations emerge on the motivations, backstories, and secrets of America’s most notorious big cat owners,” the streaming giant wrote in a press release. “Old enemies and frenemies, including Jeff Lowe, Tim Stark, Allen Glover, and James Garretson return for another season of murder, mayhem, and madness. Thought you knew the whole story? Just you wait.”
Of course, Netflix has more reasons than just fans’ desires to release Tiger King 2…
A Smart Business Decision
For those who don’t know, this is far from the only Tiger King television project in the works. In fact, Netflix seems to be trying to get ahead of the many projects inspired by the first season of its runaway hit. Back in April, NBCUniversal announced that it had purchased the rights to the podcast on which Tiger King is based. With the podcast rights, NBC its own, scripted take on the series, that will star indie filmmaker John Cameron Mitchell as Joe “Exotic” Schreibvogel and SNL star Kate McKinnon as his strange rival Carole Baskin.
Of course, one question still remains: just how much Tiger King do audiences actually want? If these projects were all to debut at the same time, they would fight for each other’s attention. However, by releasing their project before all others, Netflix hopes to earn the most significant slice of the pie. If it can tamper down excitement for NBC’s show next year, all the better. Meanwhile, the original Tiger King remains one of the most popular shows on Netflix.
Will Tiger King earn the same amount of praise and attention when it debuts on Netflix on November 17? Well, that remains to be seen. However, you can watch the official trailer for Tiger King 2 over on YouTube!
