So, word on the street is that Kim Kardashian is following the footsteps of her husband Kanye West and younger sister Kylie Jenner to join the exclusive celebrity billionaires club.
But given the Kardashian-Jenner clan’s track record of allegedly bumping up their net worth, this rumor made many people raise their eyebrows. And considering that the announcement came from her controversial husband, you might be skeptical, too.
Kanye’s Shoutout
Going on Twitter, the 43-year-old rapper congratulated Kardashian for ‘officially becoming a billionaire’. He then went on to say how God guided her family to survive the crazy storms they’ve been in.
West accompanied the post with a seemingly unrelated photo of vegetables. Safe to say, people on Twitter had a lot to say about the tweet, which has already garnered over 155,000 likes and 8,800 replies.
One of those who had qualms about the rapper’s declaration is former ‘The X Factor’ judge Sharon Osbourne. The British television personality called out West for his tone-deaf tweet telling him that now isn’t the right time to boast about his family’s wealth.
Osbourne’s sentiments were echoed by other Twitter users who replied to the ‘Gold Digger’ rapper’s original tweet.
Recent Business Deal
Criticisms aside, is Kanye’s announcement really true? Has another member of the reality television family reached billionaire status?
To find out, let’s take a look at the recent deal Kardashian signed with the cosmetic conglomerate Coty Inc. According to sources, she just sold off 20% of her KKW Beauty brand to the tune of $200 million.
This leaves the reality television star with a 72% stake in her company. Her mother and manager Kris Jenner retains an 8% stake.
The agreement has reportedly been in the works for months and is part of Coty’s attempts at drawing younger consumers by acquiring social media influencer-driven brands. The multinational beauty company has also bought a stake in Kylie Cosmetics.
Not Too Far Behind
All things considered, Kardashian is still short of being a billionaire. She isn’t too far away from earning the title though as Forbes estimated her net worth to be around $900 million.
Kardashian is currently on the same level as her 22-year-old sister. Once dubbed the world’s youngest self-made billionaire, Jenner recently lost her status after Forbes accused her of inflating her earnings by doctoring documents.
The young businesswoman has since fired back at the publication’s allegations saying that she never asked for the title in the first place.
