Waitresses work incredibly hard for their tips. However, recently, one waitress earned more than a great tip – a customer left a kind, caring note that brought the worker to tears!
Waitress In Tears, For A Good Reason

Waitress Megan King started her shift at the restaurant chain Perkins off quite normally, having no idea that her day would end with tears streaming down her face. Thankfully, the tears were happy! It all started when an older woman came in during the middle of her shift last Sunday. Immediately, King felt a connection with the woman. Even though the waitress was busy, she still took the time to talk to the woman. And that’s when the woman opened up to King.
“About halfway through her meal, it started to slow down so we chatted for a few minutes. Small talk, nothing too deep. She told me she was almost 70 and has been slowing down a bit. She said she just wanted to stop by an old favorite for a bite,” King said. The waitress also recalled how the woman kept looking around, as if she was missing someone or something. “She kept looking up at me so I assumed something wasn’t right with her meal or that she needed something. I guess she did, in a way. [She needed] an ear.”
As soon as she had arrived, the older woman left. However, she left King much more than a tip – she also left behind a note, one that brought tears to the waitress’ eyes. “Thank you very much for your kind service. This was my first time eating out alone since my husband passed. I was hoping I could get through it,” the note read.

As soon as King read the note, she started crying. “As soon as I read that she’d lost her husband, I lost it,” she added. “I had to use the restroom to get myself together enough to tend to my other tables even though I really didn’t have time to take a rest.” After she finished her shift, King knew she needed to share the note with the world. So, she posted a photo of the note to Twitter – and it almost instantly went viral! As of this writing, the photo of the note has been shared over 60,000 times with nearly as many comments.
Of course, many commenters said they want to hug the widow themselves – and King agrees. She wishes she had as well! King also wishes she had spent more time with the widow. However, the note lets her know she’s done what she can. We can all only hope that the woman returns and dines with King again. Maybe they can even become friends one day. Here’s hoping! Either way, we’re glad that King helped ease the woman’s pain, at least for a short while.
