Judy Sheindlin, better known as “Judge Judy,” has stopped working for CBS after 25 years, likening it to a “divorce.” Thankfully, fans can rest easy: Sheindlin plans on starting a new show on a competing network!
Quarrels With CBS

For those who don’t follow daytime television, Judy Sheindlin ended her CBS show Judge Judy last year. It actually had little to do with Judge Judy program itself. You see, Sheindlin had started a second show: Hot Bench, which earned, on average, 2.3 million viewers. However, CBS bumped Hot Bench to a secondary network to make way for The Drew Barrymore Show, despite Barrymore’s show earning less than a million viewers. “You disrespected my creation,” Sheindlin said, addressing CBS, in an interview with the Wall Street Journal. “And you were wrong. Not only in disrespecting my creation, but your gamble in what you put in its place.”
“I’ve had a 25-year long marriage with CBS and it’s been successful. Next year will be our 25th season, silver anniversary. And CBS, I think, sort of felt they wanted to optimally utilize the repeats of my program because now they have 25 years of reruns,” Sheindlin said when announcing the end of
Judge Judy. “So what they decided to do was sell a couple of years worth of reruns.” Still, while things did not work out perfectly with CBS, Sheindlin always knows how to look at things positively. “[CBS and I] had a nice marriage,” she explained. “It’s going to be a Bill and Melinda Gates divorce.”
So, what’s next for Judge Judy? Well, she’s not slowing down – even at 78-years-old!

Of course, when CBS confirmed the announcement, the company did not speak to Sheindlin’s grievances. “We have had an incredibly successful relationship with Judy over the last 25 years,” said CBS Media Ventures president Steve LoCascio. “It has been an honor representing her show, and just like there has never been another Oprah, there will never be another Judge Judy.”
So what’s next for Judge Judy? Well, soon enough, her new show, Judy Justice, will premiere on Amazon’s new streaming channel, IMDb TV. So far, while the show has been announced, the team has kept a tight lid on what the show will be like. Even when Entertainment Weekly asked about the differences between the shows, Sheindlin refused to give up any details. “I would tell you but then I’d have to kill you,” Sheindlin said. “You can’t change that much of court. You can add some things to that to make it more visually interesting and sometimes more realistic, which is what we will do.”
While it’s not clear yet that Sheindlin made the right decisions, she says time will tell. “I assume that I’ll know if Judy Justice bombs,” she told the Wall Street Journal. “At this point, I don’t need that validation of my footprint.” We’re sure that fans will tune in to Judy Justice, whatever the reviews!
