Whether you love McDonald’s or hate the fast-food giant, you’ve probably wondered about what exactly one of their mascots, Grimace, is. Now, thanks to one McDonald’s manager from Canada, we may finally have an answer – and what the manager said is sure to surprise you!
McDonald’s Odd Mascot – Grimace
At long last, a decades-old McMystery has been solved – at least we think so! For many years, hundreds around the world have wondered about what exactly Grimace, a purple, blob-ish mascot that pals around with Ronald McDonald, actually is. Since his debut in 1971, all fans have known is that his name is Grimace. Now, finally, an insider at the fast-food company has revealed the long-hidden truth about one of the strangest mascots ever. Brian Bates, an award-winning McDonald’s managed in Windsor, Canada, spilled the beans in an interview with Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC) News.
Bates, who earned the “Outstanding Manager of the Year” award last month, for his incredible leadership throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, let the secret loose during a discussion about his accolades and his plan to continue to guide his restaurant through the coronavirus pandemic. “He is an enormous taste bud,” Bates explained in the interview. “But a taste bud nonetheless,”
As you might imagine, the revelation sen shock waves through the internet. On social media sites, users from around the world, people could not help but joke about the true identity of Grimace…
Who Is It?
Within hours of the interview going live on the CBC News website, many Twitter users started discussing the McRevelation. “I was today years old when I found out that Grimace from the McDonald’s franchise is meant to be a human taste bud,” one user poster. Another tweeted, “KIDS THIS GENERATION WILL NEVER EXPERIENCE THE FEAR OF SEEING MCDONALDS GRIMACE I HATE IT HERE!” Others jokes about the war between the opinions, like: “YOU GUYS! the results are in! You have decided that #GRIMACE is both a Taste Bud and Purple Poop. Even score!”
Still, there’s an even bigger question: is Bates right about Grimace? Looking into McDonald’s history, it is hard to know precisely. When introduced in 1971, Grimace actually bore the name “Evil Grimace,” had four arms, and loved to steal milkshakes. But, after that first ad campaign, the company decided to revise the character as a “good guy,” and reduced his arm number to two. “I was today years old when I found out Grimace was originally called ‘The Evil Grimace’ and was a monstrous, four-armed villain who stole (and probably ate children),” one fan Tweeted after learning this fact.
So far, this time around, McDonald’s has yet to weigh in on the manager’s entry into the decades-long Grimace Debate. However, back in 2012, the official Canadian McDonald’s Twitter hinted at Grimace’s true identity. “Grimace is the embodiment of a milkshake, though others still insist he’s a taste bud,” the company tweeted at the time. So, is Grimace the embodiment of a milkshake, a tastebud, or something else entirely? Well, it seems like that’s up to you!
