When Prince Harry and Meghan Markle left the Royal Family, they claimed they were totally cut off. However, that might not exactly be true. Sources say that Princes Charles sent them a “substantial sum” of money after the couple’s exit…
Prince Charles’s Financial Support
After Prince Harry and Meghan Markle officially left the British Royal Family, they claimed they had been completely cut off, in the now-infamous Oprah interview. However, according to the palace, that’s not exactly true. A senior Clarence House spokesperson said that Prince Charles gifted the pair over $3 million in order to help facilitate Harry and Meghan’s transition into fully independent people.
“As we’ll all remember in January 2020 when the duke and duchess announced that they were going to move away from the working royal family, the duke said that they would work towards becoming financially independent,” said a senior Clarence House spokesperson. “The Prince of Wales allocated a substantial sum to support them with this transition. That funding ceased in the summer of last year. The couple is now financially independent.” However, the Clarence House spokesperson did not immediately assign blame to Harry and Meghan, insisting that they did not know if the couple had changed since fleeing to the United States. “I wouldn’t acknowledge that they are dramatically different. All I can tell you are the facts.” Meanwhile, the Clarence House spokesperson also explained that the Royal Family still feels upset over their exit, but they are excited to see the newfound independence of the couple. “I betray no confidence when I say they’ve been very successful in becoming financially independent,” they finished by saying.
Meanwhile, Harry and Meghan’s spokesperson said that this is likely just one big misunderstanding.
Prince Harry And Meghan Markle…Misunderstood?
In response, Harry and Meghan‘s spokesperson said that the couple absolutely did not lie in the Oprah interview. Instead, they said that people were confusing the timeline considerably. Apparently, when stating that the royal family cut the couple off financially “in the first quarter of 2020,” Prince Harry meant the fiscal reporting period.
“[Many] are conflating two different timelines and it’s inaccurate to suggest that there’s a contradiction,” the couple’s spokesperson said. “The duke’s comments during the Oprah interview were in reference to the first quarter of the fiscal reporting period in the UK, which starts annually in April. This is the same date that the ‘transitional year’ of the Sandringham agreement began and is aligned with the timeline that Clarence House referenced.”
One thing’s clear: the former Duke and Duchess of Sussex will certainly not need any more bailouts from Prince Charles. They are currently swimming in tremendous deals and opportunities. In the past year, they have signed multi-million agreements with both Netflix and Spotify, two of the largest content providers in the world. Just take a look at the numbers! While Meghan and Harry’s net worth sat at roughly $25 million before the deal, it grew tremendously after the $150-million deal with Netflix. And we’re sure that it will only continue to grow in the coming years!
