Chef Alexandre Chebila prefers sourcing Argentine beef over more commonly available Australian cuts. “You need your own network for the best,” he explains, pointing out that true culinary luxury is often about consistency and knowing exactly where your food comes from.

One of the quirks of working for the rich and famous is unpredictability. It’s not rare for chefs to spend hours preparing a $2,000 meal, only for the client to opt for dinner out instead.

Chef Andrew Crellin, based in Abu Dhabi, says, “Sometimes they decide at the last minute that they’ll fly to the U.S. or Australia. There’s no budget limitation, so decisions are fluid.” Napoleone adds, “You might be halfway through prepping a full Indian menu, and suddenly they’ll want Italian. That’s just how it goes.”

Even then, food rarely goes to waste—it’s shared among the household staff, ensuring resources are respected.

Social Dining and Special Occasions

The rich and famous often dine quietly, but when they entertain, it’s extravagant. Hosting guests five times a week isn’t uncommon. And when the occasion calls for it, they fly in chefs from world-renowned restaurants. “A client once flew a Japanese chef to Dubai just for one night,” Napoleone shares. “He cooked, got paid, and flew back the same day.”

These moments are about creating unforgettable experiences, not just meals. Whether replicating a dish from a wellness retreat in Switzerland or recreating flavors from a favorite Dubai restaurant, chefs go the extra mile—literally.

Junk Food and Childhood Cravings

While adult diets lean toward clean eating, sugar-free lifestyles, and organic everything, kids are given more leeway, especially during sleepovers or parties. “When friends are over, they’ll order a ton of McDonald’s,” laughs Crellin. It’s a small reminder that even in luxury, some cravings are universal.

Chefs also anticipate their clients’ habits. Napoleone makes lasagna every Saturday, even if it isn’t requested. “They usually ask for it, so I just get ahead,” he says. It’s about understanding the rhythm of their lives, not just following orders.

A Day in the Life of Domestic Staff

Personal chefs aren’t the only ones navigating these exclusive spaces. Butlers, like Kristine Jabunan, play crucial roles—from organizing wardrobes by brand and material to coordinating overseas shopping and managing flight bookings.

“Clients are very particular about time,” she shares. “Even visiting a Rolex store has to be booked in advance. One time, I had to order a European makeup brand that was sold out in Dubai.”

Despite the luxury, some moments feel deeply human. Jabunan recalls helping a sick client who longed to speak with her mother abroad. “I arranged a video call for her, and she cried when she saw her mom. That’s when I realized—they’re just like anyone else.”

The One Thing Money Can’t Replace

What stands out the most in these households isn’t just the opulence—it’s how food remains one of the few pleasures that even the ultra-wealthy never tire of. As Conan O’Brien once said, “You can buy a Bugatti, but after a few weeks, it’s just a car.”
