Just imagine it: you head into your favorite pub for a single beer. However, then, the snow starts to fall – hard! All of a sudden, you’re stuck in the pub and need to remain there for a full three days! Well, for 60 people in England, that’s precisely what happened. Although they were all snowed-in for nearly a whole work week, these 60 people had a whale of a time!
Snowed In Pub Dwellers
For some, it sounds like a nightmare: 60 drinkers all stuck in a pub in the United Kingdom, thanks to a combo of downed power lines and snowdrifts. However, according to those who stayed in the pub, it wasn’t all that bad! Between the Oasis cover bad, an extensive collection of board games, trivia games, and karaoke machine, it was actually pretty fun! In fact, the pub guests loved every minute of it!
“They’re all in good spirits, they’re all eating and drinking well,” one of the co-owners of the Tan Hill Pub, Andrew Hields, told CNN amid the snowstorm. For those who have never been, the Tan Hill Pub sits in the beautiful Yorkshire Dales in northeast England. The Dales sit nearly 1,800 feet above sea level, making it the highest pub in all of Britain. That also means it can get some pretty nasty storms – which it did last week!
Soon enough, all three roads leading up to Tan Hill were shut down! Two were completely covered with snow, while the other was blocked by a downed power line. As the storm continued, the revelers quickly realized that they might be staying at the Tan Hill Pub a little longer than they had expected…
A Life-Changing Experience
It wasn’t just the Tan Hill that was hit hard by Storm Arwen. As the wind rates got up to 90 miles per hour in some locations, the snow brought life in much of northeastern England to a standstill. Thankfully, the Tan Hill Pub has faced some severe storms before. As such, the pub is entirely off the grid, meaning that the downed power lines did not stop the pud dwellers’ ability to have fun. Between performances by the band, Christmas caroling, board games, trivia contests, and alcohol, of course, the three days flew by!
Afterward, the co-owners of Tan Hill described the three days as a “life-changing experience,” calling everyone involved, both guests and employees, “amazing people.” Meanwhile, the guests felt the same way! “You guys have been amazing! You’ve worked never ending shifts to keep us well fed and watered,” Becky Longthorp, one of those stuck in the pub, wrote on Facebook. “We will never forget this extraordinary experience.”
