Christmas is behind us for the year, so now it’s time to focus on the next major candy holiday – that’s Valentine’s Day! Each year, many candy companies release new flavors during this most loving of holidays. Recently, Mars Incorporated announced that its M&M brand would unveil a unique flavor this holiday season…

And the new M&M flavor is…Black Forest Cake! That’s right! For those who don’t know, the typical Black Forest Cake is a combination of moist chocolate sponge cake, morello cherries or cherry jam, chocolate frosting, and plenty of whipped cream. It’s really no wonder it’s one of the most popular cakes in the world – who doesn’t love chocolate and fruit? Now, though, you don’t need to bake an entire Black Forest Cake. Instead, you can head down to a nearby store and pick up a bag of M&M Black Forest Cake!
“Could there be a more perfect M&M,” the candy company wrote in the official statement announcing the flavor. “This Valentine’s Day, these special M&M’s will be sure to win your heart over. Each bite-sized candy is filled with a milk and dark chocolate center that boasts enticing black forest cake flavors.” The bags will include a mix of milk chocolate, dark chocolate, and Black Forest Cake flavored candies, all mixed together. Of course, you don’t only need to eat them! You could also add them to your favorite cookie, cake, or brownie recipe to really kick things up a notch this Valentine’s Day!

So how do these Black Forest Cake M&Ms stack up to the original? Well, the popular food reviewer, Impulse Buyer, tried them, so you don’t have to! “These M&M’s remind me of a Valentine’s staple: cherry cordial candies,” they wrote in their review, which went up last week. “The milk chocolate center of the M&M seems to hold most of the cherry flavor, which tastes a lot like a cherry cordial — minus the sticky filling. The cherry taste complements the chocolate well. It is noticeable, but not overwhelming, medicinal, or sour.”
If you really want to try these candies, there’s some excellent news: you will not have to drive very far to pick up the new flavor – or at all if you don’t want to! The regular, 8-ounce bag is available at many stores, including both Target and Walmart. Meanwhile, Walmart sells them on their website, so you can have them delivered straight to your home! Is there a better way to celebrate Valentine’s Day than having candy dropped off at your house? We don’t think so!
