While live television news is important for weather, emergency, and other up-to-date reports, it can also lead to some seriously wild moments. During her last week as a field reporter, television reporter Tori Yorgey got hit by a car on live TV. Thankfully, she’s okay! Read on to find out more about this crazy story…
Live Car Accident
Tori Yorgey, a reporter for WSAZ-TV in West Virginia, had no idea her last week on the job would become her most famous. One of the 25-year-old’s final assignments was reporting live on a relatively standard story of a water main break in the town of Dunbar. Everything seemed fine until, in the middle of a live report, a car came barrelling down the street and blindsided her!
While it certainly could have been a horrific encounter, Yorgey was thankfully both uninjured and, more importantly, undeterred. Even though both the reporter and camera were knocked over, the young woman got back up and kept reporting. That’s right!
“Oh my god! I just got hit by a car, but I’m okay,” Yorgey explained to the anchor back in the safe studio, Tim Irr. “I just got hit by a car, but I’m okay, Tim.” As you might imagine, Irr felt so shocked that he could barely reply. “Well, that’s a first for you on TV, Tori,” he responded. From there, things only got more bizarre: “That’s live TV for you. It’s all good,” Yorgey said in a cheerful voice. “I actually got hit by a car in college too. Just like that! I am so glad I’m okay. We’re good, Tim.”
That’s when the woman in the car got out to check on Yorgey.
Always Finishing Her Report
Things only got better from the accident. Thankfully, the woman driving the car did not hit and run. Instead, she immediately pulled over and could be heard off-camera asking if the reporter was okay. The kind young woman she is, Yorgey reassured her that she was okay. “Ma’am, you are so sweet and you are okay. It is all good,” the reporter said with a smile on her face. “You know, it’s my last week on the job and [of course] this would happen.”
So, what’s next for the 25-year-old? Well, Yorgey recently announced that she would move from WSAZ-TV to WTAE-TV in Pittsburgh, one of the biggest news stations in the country. Meanwhile, she recently appeared on the final season of The Ellen DeGeneres Show, to talk about the incident.
“I was sore for a couple days after, but she didn’t hit super-fast,” Yorgey said on The Ellen DeGeneres Show. “She hit me really perfectly if you think about it, because she pushed me and I just went into the camera and it fell down.” Well, at least she’s remaining positive!
