To complete the list, Japan recently announced plans for an all-time high level of military spending. it is in response to growing concerns about the safety of the surrounding region.
The necessity of this endeavor, as well as interoperability with our allies, has only increased. In Anand’s words, “our world is growing darker” as a result of “Russia’s illegitimate and unjustifiable invasion of Ukraine and China’s more assertive behavior in the Indo-Pacific.”

What Makes It an Interesting News?

This news comes as Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador, American Vice President Joe Biden, and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau get ready to attend a “Three Amigos” conference in Mexico City.

NY Times / The decision government comes after a “Three Amigo” conference of Justin Trudeau and American leadership.

For more than a decade, Canada has had a close defense alliance with the United States. It has been looking for a way to replace its fleet of Boeing CF-18 fighters. Some of which are older than forty years. Some of these planes are even older than fifty.

How Is the World Expecting Things to Unfold?

It is anticipated that the F-35 will reach its full fleet capability between the years 2032 and 2034, with the delivery of the first four aircraft scheduled for 2026.

Planes alone only account for a percentage of the project’s estimated total cost. On the other hand, the program is anticipated to cost $52 billion (or $70 billion Canadian) over the course of its entire life cycle. As a result, this has sparked some debate and investigation in Canada.

After a particularly difficult month, the No Fighter Jets Coalition delivered a statement. They called the move “irresponsible and immoral” for the government of Justin Trudeau to spend public money on American jets.

IMBD / Public has varying reactions to the decision of Justin Trudeau, as a vast majority of the public is against the decision.

Instead, the federal government needs to invest funds in various areas. These include affordable housing, medical research, public schools, job training programs, and climate change adaptation and mitigation. Canada’s proposed acquisition of F-35 fighter jets is unjustified and ought to be canceled.

During his election campaign in 2015, Trudeau made a commitment to overturn the decision made by the previous administration of the Conservative Party. He made it under Stephen Harper to purchase F-35s. Instead, he made a vow to conduct a competitive bidding process. It aims to replace the Canadian fleet while the Liberal Party was in power.

At the time, Trudeau made the following statement: We know that opting to cancel the F-35 procurement by the Conservative government and choosing instead to replace it with a competitive bid among the numerous alternatives out there will allow us to save tens of billions of dollars over the next several decades.

What Is the Latest Update?

On Monday, however, Anand maintained that the F-35 contract would boost Canada’s ability to fulfill domestic military duties. He added that it’d communicate with its NORAD and NATO partners. He stated that this improvement would come about as a result of the pact (NATO).

Together, these efforts will reinforce our military edge to keep Canadians safe. These will offer economic prospects for our country, the minister of defense stated. These initiatives will also create opportunities for the economy of the country.
