Legally Blonde 3 is coming! We’ll see a ton of Elle Woods, an iconic character who loves pink, her little chihuahua, and the law. Her friend, Paulette, played by Jennifer Coolidge, will be in the new movie, too.
Iconic Elle In Legally Blonde
The original Legally Blonde movie came out in 2001. That year made Reese Witherspoon a worldwide star, as well as her character, Elle Woods, one of the most iconic roles in the ‘00s. Elle, the vegetarian law school student, had to go through a lot of challenges to become a lawyer. That included rude and evil people at law school, her terrible ex-boyfriend Warner (played by Matthew Davis), and a list of dumb stereotypes. Yet, she succeeded. Now, after years of waiting, Legally Blonde 3 is in production. In May 2020, sources confirmed that Witherspoon is returning to play Elle. That said, her co-star Jennifer Coolidge will be appearing in the film a lot, too!
Marc Platt, the original film’s producer will be working on the film along with Mindy Kaling and Dan Goor, writers for the third part’s script. “Elle Woods is so iconic, proving you can be girly and smart at the same time. Bend and snap people!” Kaling wrote on Instagram, confirming her writing role on the film. A few months after the initial announcement, Witherspoon and Coolidge teamed up to reveal more on the new film. They discussed their roles in The Morning Show and The White Lotus. First, the two recalled the first film – a whopping 20 years before! Coolidge, 60, doesn’t know much about the new movie, though. “I know so little of what’s happening with that, so I can’t wait to hear what Reese has to say today,” she said.
Excited To Return
Of course, both actresses feel excited about working side to side again. The 45-year-old Witherspoon revealed that she’s good friends with Coolidge. “I mean, just the idea of being anywhere with Jennifer would be the greatest,” she stated. “And visiting characters 20 years later to see what’s changed about them and what hasn’t.” The A-list celeb mentioned that Elle is more than just a blonde girl, while the movie has so much potential to it. She said that it’s all about feminism – women can be “defined by your girlfriends, by your sense of self-worth, by your job, your education, your accomplishments,” not just romance. The script for the new part is already in the writing.
“It’s a lot of me and this lady,” Witherspoon said about Coolidge. “That’s all I have to say!” In the previous parts – Legally Blonde and Red, White & Blonde – the latter played Elle’s close friend Paulette. Elle helped her regain her self-worth and confidence, as well as take back the beloved dog. “I can’t wait to see what people will think of the way we wrote Elle Woods,” Kaling said about the third installment. “We wrote Elle Woods at 40, so how Elle is at 40 versus how she was at 21 has been really fun to imagine.” Of course, the sequel will have a ton of references to the past. So, older fans will enjoy the ride, too.
“’Bend and snap’ is forever. We definitely have a lot of fan favorites from the original movie,” Kaling explained.
