Mayim Bialik is one of the most accomplished actresses we have – she doesn’t just excel in her craft but she is also a neuroscientist, proving that you can really be successful in both fields. But she believes that learning shouldn’t stop when you graduate as she recently acquired a new skill.
Actress, Neuroscientist In One
Long before she became the ever-smart neurobiologist Amy Farrah Fowler in the CBS sitcom ‘The Big Bang Theory,’ she has etched her name in science already, a feat that’s uncommon for actresses. After starring in ‘Beaches’ and ‘Blossom’ as a teenager, Mayim went on to get her Ph.D. in neuroscience from the University of California Los Angeles.
Other stars who have started early in show business decided to drop out of school as they found success in acting, but for some, education remains to be the top priority no matter how successful they have become. Mayim belongs to the second category as she didn’t let fame stop her from reaching her dreams.
In an interview, she explained that she was in ‘Blossom’ from 14 to 19 and because of how she was raised, she had a very strong ‘work and education ethic.’ Her eastern European grandparents brought her parents up instilling the value of finishing college no matter what.
Feeling Appreciated
Mayim also found education fulfilling as she also wanted to feel appreciated for her mind and not only for what she can offer. While she acknowledged that the audience gets so much from her talent and her works, she underscored that there’s another person inside her.
As such, she wanted to cultivate that part of herself and when she fell in love with science, she left the industry for more than a decade to study. We can say that Mayim’s enthusiasm for learning new things is really in her blood.
New Skill
During the quarantine period, Mayim has taken the time to rest from her busy schedule to stay with her kids, Miles and Frederick. Her eldest has also been into TikTok, pretty much what’s in with teens these days.
Mayim has found a way to connect with her children and she has to be creative because her 14-year-old son was always on his phone, browsing TikTok. As such, the actress has learned how to dance on the app, which she posted on her YouTube account.
But dancing doesn’t just help her bond with her kids, it also uplifts her mood and aids in shedding additional pounds.
Mayim underlined how important it is not just for our physical health but also for our mental wellbeing because getting your heart rate up increases the release of the happy hormones.
