Sally Kellerman was born to her father, an oil executive, and her mother, a piano teacher, in 1937. “I came out of the womb singing and acting,” she once said of her childhood. While it took until 1970, Kellerman finally earned her big break as a nurse Margaret “Hot Lips” Houlihan in the hit film M*A*S*H*, alongside Donald Sutherland and Elliot Gould. Afterward, the actress was nominated for an Oscar for her standout performance as Houlihan. While she did not win the award, the part has a long-lasting impact on Kellerman’s career. At first, she later told The Desert Sun, she was afraid the part would make her “a one-trick pony.”

However, Kellerman became anything but a one-trick pony. She enjoyed a massive career that last for over six decades. Along the way she appeared in everything from the original Star Trek show and Rodney Dangerfield’s love interest in Back to School to a slew of Robert Altman films. Most recently, she worked with comedy duo Tim and Eric on the show Decker, as well as the hit dramatic sitcom Maron.

Of course, after her passing, many stars from around the world took to social media to remember the iconic actress…

Marc Maron, the creator of Maron, was one of the first actors to write a tribute to Sally Kellerman. “Sally Kellerman was radiant and beautiful and fun and so great to work with,” Maron wrote on Twitter. “My real mom was very flattered and a bit jealous. I’m sad she’s gone.” Later on, actress Loretta Swit, who took over the role of Hot Lips on the M*A*S*H* television program, took a more simple approach, tweeting out a broken heart emoji, along with the hashtags “#OG” and “#HotLipsHoulihan.”

Many of Kellerman’s other co-stars also took the day to remember the star. Actor Treat Williams, who start with Keller in the 1983 movie Dempsey wrote: “Oh Sally Kellerman. We played husband and wife in Dempsey. I loved you in M*A*S*H*. You were sweet and funny and vulnerable. And a lovely singer. A life well lived. You will be missed. RIP.” Famed actress Rosanna Arquette, who worked with Kellerman on Seeking Susan, tweeted, “Sally Kellerman I love you I’m so sad rest in power and Peace.”
