That’s right – the gang’s back! Well, mostly. HBO recently debuted a new trailer for And Just Like That…, a sequel to the iconic sitcom Sex and the City. Read on to see what you can expect when the show debuts on HBO Max on December 9!
And Just Like That… Trailer
Ever wonder what happened to the characters from Sex and the City? Well, now you can find out! And Just Like That will follow a new chapter in the lives of fan-favorites Carrie (Sarah Jessica Parker), Miranda (Cynthia Nixon), and Charlotte (Kristin Davis). As always, the women continue to navigate the waters of love and career, all while trying to survive in New York City. No need to worry, fans: Mr. Big shall return! The trailer has a sweet moment where Carrie and her on-and-off love interest share a kiss in the kitchen. Another moment shows the three women, stylishly dressed, at a club.
What happened to Samantha Jones, portrayed by the famed Kim Cattrall? Well, the actress opted not to return after the HBO series (1998-2004) and two movies (2008 and 2010), because of personal problems with Parker. Thankfully, the show will fill in the pieces with many new stars, including Sara Ramírez, Nicole Ari Parker, Chris Noth, David Eisenberg, Evan Handler, Sarita Choudhury, and the late Willi Garson, among many others.
And Just Like That will premiere on HBO Max with two episodes on December 9. The following eight episodes, for a total of 10 episodes in the first season, will come out every subsequent Thursday. While we still don’t know how the show will do, HBO is all in on the Sex and the City revival. In fact, And Just Like That is just one piece of the new puzzle…
HBO Max and Sex and the City
Of course, the original Sex and the City series was based on author Candace Bushnell’s 1996 book of the same name. Created by Darren Star, the hit sitcom ran for a whopping six seasons between 1998 and 2004. Afterward, it earned two follow-up films that both did well. The movies did so well that it also inspired a prequel series, The Carrie Diaries, created by Amy B. Harris, a former writer and producer on Sex and the City. While the prequel failed to hit the right notes, ending after only two seasons, it did not stop HBO from moving forward with the sequel.
Over the course of the original Sex and the City run, the series picked up seven Emmy Awards, including a Lead Comedy Actress award for Parker, Supporting Comedy Actress win for Nixon, Comedy Directing for King, and Best Comedy Series in 2001. Along the way, it also managed to win two SAG Awards for comedy ensemble and individual comedy actress awards for each actress, among many other accolades.
If the new Sex and the City series, And Just Like That, works, there are rumors that HBO could move into more movies with the trio of actresses. But only time will tell! For now, you can head over to YouTube to watch the trailer right now!
